Guest Lecture – Tecnologico Costa Rica: Space Communications(Part-1)

As part of the course “Introduction to Space Systems” taught by Prof.  Adolfo Chaves at Tecnologico de  Costa Rica (TEC), I was invited to present a remote guest lecture on “Space Communications”.

The Part-1 of this lecture was related to Satellite Applications for Earth observation, navigation, Space exploration, and communications.

The Part-2 will be related to  Communication subsystem design for small-satellites, emphasizing on Antenna Desing/simulation and Link Budget Analysis.

Guest Lecture: Attitude and Orbital Control Systems(AOCS)

As part of the Course: Introduction to Space Engineering of Universidad Católica Santa María La Antigua, we had the Guest Lecture “Attitude and Orbital Control Systems(AOCS)” by Prof. Adolfo Chaves Jimenez

Dr. Chaves is conducting a PhD in Aerospace Engineering at TU Delft  and is currently a  Professor of Introduction to Space System at Space System Laboratory, Electronic School,  Tecnologico de Costa Rica (TEC) and coordinator of SETEC Lab – Laboratorio de Sistemas Espaciales

During this remote session, students from Costa Rica and Panama were able to learn about the orbit estimation subsystem, magnetorquers, thrusters and other mechanisms for spacecraft control.

Guest Lecture: Microwave Technologies for Space Applications

As part of the Course: Introduction to Space Engineering of Universidad Católica Santa María La Antigua, we had the Guest Lecture “Microwave Technologies for Space Applications” by Dr. Carlos A. Donado Morcillo, Adjunct Professor at USMA. Dr. Donado is a Senior Engineer at Nanowave Technologies with a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology. Dr. Donado designs and develops state-of-the-art, high power microwave/RF components for aerospace applications. Several students from Costa Rica and Panama who attended this remote Lecture were able to learn about new communication networks based on LEO satellite networks and the current technological challenges faced by space microwave systems.
