Georgia Tech´s small-satellite Prox-1 Launches from Kennedy Space Center

Prox-1 is a small Satellite developed by Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) will demonstrate proximity operations for space situational awareness, through the use of a low thrust propulsion system for orbital maneuvering, and visible and infrared imaging for reconnaissance.

I had the opportunity to work in the  COMM sub-system in 2013-2014, calculating Link-Budget and analyzing antenna radiation pattern.

The 154-pound Prox-1 was one of 24 cubesats that hitched a ride on the Falcon Heavy — the world’s most powerful operational rocket. Once it is deployed from its rideshare, Prox-1 will embark on its own mission:  to deploy LightSail-a solar-powered sailing satellite developed by the Planetary Society.
